#HIFFSpring 19 Closing Night Film THE FAREWELL with director Lulu Wang in attendance

HIFF is honored to present THE FAREWELL starring Awkwafina (#HIFF38 Maverick Award honoree) as the HIFF Spring Showcase Closing Night Gala on April 14. This crowd-pleasing family drama based on director Lulu Wang’s own life, was first produced as an award winning segment of THIS AMERICAN LIFE, and adapted into the crowd-pleasing hit that had audiences cheering and crying at its world premiere at Sundance. An extra bonus to the screening is that the director herself, Lulu Wang, will be in attendance to introduce her film and participate in a post-film Q&A.

#HIFFSpring19: World premiere of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPER CW (*CANCER HAPPENS)

One film in this year’s HIFF Spring Showcase program is entirely homegrown in Honolulu and honors the legacy of one of Oahu's greatest champions for the arts. The HIFF programming team was very compelled to present the world premiere of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPER CW (*CANCER HAPPENS). This personal documentary, directed by local filmmaker and Ohina Film Showcase co-director Gerard Elmore, follows the journey of the late Christa Wittmier (@supercw) who was a fixture in Honolulu’s nightlife scene for over a decade.

#HIFFSpring19 Final Films Confirmed: Courtyard Cinema screening of Oscar winner FREE SOLO, Japanese psycho-horror IT COMES

Final films have been confirmed for the 22nd HIFF Spring Showcase presented by Halekulani. In partnership with Ward Village, HIFF is honored to present a free screening of this year’s Academy Award for Best Documentary winner FREE SOLO at Courtyard Cinema on April 11. In addition, visionary Japanese director Tetsuya Nakashima (CONFESSIONS, MEMORIES OF MATSUKO) returns to the big screen in his new horror film IT COMES. Finally, two new Korean films have been added, the Wallstreet-inspired crime thriller MONEY and legal drama INNOCENT WITNESS starring Korean megastar Jung Woo-sung.

In 2019, the program sections at the 22nd HIFF Spring Showcase presented by Halekulani, will also include the first ever KoreanFest! KoreanFest has been designed to bring you the latest and greatest Korean films from the winter and spring season.
