Encore screening of 26.2 TO LIFE added – 3/27, 5:30pm

By popular demand, we have added a second screening of 26.2 TO LIFE after the first screening quickly sold out. Directed by Christine Yoo, she and special guests from the film will also be in attendance for an after-film Q&A.

26.2 TO LIFE (Encore screening)
Wednesday, March 27th, 5:30pm – Consolidated Kahala (Buy Tickets)

Below is a statement from film’s official Facebook Page about the connective tissue in State’s recent changes to its Department of Corrections:

26.2 TO LIFE is hitting the island at a time when the state’s Public Safety Department that oversees the prisons has been re-named as the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports that “With 95% of incarcerated people who go into the state’s prison system eventually being released, moving away from punitive justice has become a “vital” part of its mission.”

The State of Hawai‘i has a unique situation as many of its incarcerated population are transferred to private prisons on the Continent, mainly Arizona. People who are housed here are cut off from family and yet, there is not enough room on island to house offenders.
