Here are the #HIFF38 Audience Award Winners presented by Hawaii News Now

The ballots have been tabulated and were announced this morning by Billy V on Hawaii News Now, the sponsor of the #HIFF38 Audience Awards. Here are the best films at HIFF as determined by festival audiences: Best Narrative Feature goes to Hirokazu Kore-eda's SHOPLIFTERS. Best Documentary Feature goes to Naalehu Anthony's MOANANUIĀKEA: ONE OCEAN, ONE PEOPLE, ONE CANOE . Finally, Best Short Film goes to Ty Sanga's HAE HAWAI'I.

Added film screenings for #HIFF38 Closing Weekend on Oahu

As previously announced, we have included late additions to the HIFF38 festival program—THE FAVOURITE, MOMENTUM GENERATION and THE UPSIDE—as well as added encores of popular films as requested by HIFF audiences such as SHOPLIFTERS and Okinawan film BORN BONE BORN. We have also added an extra screening of Closing Night Film MOANANUIĀKEA: ONE OCEAN. ONE PEOPLE. ONE CANOE. at Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18. Finally, we have added encore screening slots for the MADE IN HAWAII Award Winner, BETHANY HAMILTON: UNSTOPPABLE and the KAU KA HŌKŪ Award Winner, PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF DESIRE, which were announced at the HIFF Awards Gala on November 16.

#HIFF38 added screenings for EATING UP EASTER and SHOPLIFTERS

We are at the midpoint of the 38th Hawaii International Film Festival presented by Halekulani and are slowly adding additional screenings to reserved TBA slots embedded in the screening schedule. We are glad to announce that we have been approved to add encore screenings for Sergio Rapu’s EATING UP EASTER (November 15, 5:00pm) and Cannes Palme d’Or winner SHOPLIFTERS from Hirokazu Kore-eda (November 18, 4:30pm). #HIFF38 SOUND X VISION — From The Byrds to BoyBand Fandom to Awkwafina

SOUND X VISION is HIFF’s annual section devoted to films about music. This year’s section spotlights the Golden Age of ‘60s rock music in ECHO IN THE CANYON, to a celebration of intergenerational boy band fandom in I USED TO BE NORMAL: A BOYBAND FANGIRL STORY, to the Asian American indie FICTION & OTHER REALITIES inspired by the life of Korean American singer-songwriter Bobby Choy. We’ve also got the forgotten ‘80s cult classic THE LEGEND OF THE STARDUST BROTHERS and a special IN CONVERSATION WITH AWKWAFINA on closing weekend.
