The Hawaii International Film Festival today announced a partnership with EuroCinema Hawai'i and will inaugurate its first ever "Festival within a Festival" with the October 2010 launch of EuroCinema Hawai'i.

The Hawaii International Film Festival's Spring Festival is coming up, April 16 to 22 at Regal's Dole Cannery theaters. Tickets go on sale to HIFF Ohana members April 5 and to the general public April 7.

Executive director Chuck Boller and the organizers for this year's 30th Annual Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) will get the ball rolling with the 13th year of "Spring Showcase"—20 films that will screen at Regal Dole Cannery Stadium theaters, April 16 – 22, 2010. While only a handful of the films have been confirmed for the upcoming mini-festival, two have already been nominated for Oscars this year.

Ingredients is screening at HIFF on October 23 @ 6PM, and October 24 @ 3:45 PM. Director Robert Bates will be in attendance.

The Hawaii International Film Festival doesn’t need any help being hip, but they’ve turned it up a notch at this year’s festival with a terrific series of films addressing design-related topics. Here’s a quick run-down of their picks. My top choices include a documentary about the recently-deceased architecture photographer Julius Shulman, and a documentary about the underground world of rock concert poster-designing graphic artists.

It’s a great day for America, everybody.
If you live in the beautiful state of Hawaii that is, because the 29th annual Hawaii International Film Festival (October 15-25) will see the North American Premiere of Morimoto Shintaro’s upcoming movie Snow Prince ~ Kinjirareta koi no melody. Screenings of the film will be on Tuesday, October 20, at 6:45pm at Dole Cannery E, and on Saturday, October 24, at 7:15pm at Dole Cannery D in Honolulu.

One Wednesday night, in the spring of 1988, Jack and Euliala Luckett went to their usual foreign film showing at the La Jolla, California Art Museum. The young man Greg who was in charge of the evening's program announced that there would be a free screening after the main attraction; and being avid film buffs the Lucketts stayed.
