CLEAN
NOTRE MUSIQUE DAY OF INDEPENDENCE AMASIAN: THE AMAZING ASIAN
|
Opening Night! The Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival has its bow tonight at the historic Hawaii Theatre! Join us for a special screening of Olivier Assayas' CLEAN! Ms. Maggie Cheung, whose performance captured this year's Best Actress award at Cannes, will introduce the show! Showtime is 8:00 p.m.! Tickets available at the Festival Box Office or at the Hawaii Theatre! Gerard Elmore's hilarious short AMASIAN: THE AMAZING ASIAN now screens with Hawaii Panorama 7, Tuesday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Signature Theaters Dole Cannery. This is a change from its original scheduled exhibition in Hawaii Panorama 2. We've added a special screening of STAND UP FOR JUSTICE: THE RALPH LAZO STORY together with DAY OF INDEPENDENCE on Sunday, October 31 at 4:45 p.m. at the Signature Theaters Dole Cannery! Due to scheduling problems, we've had to cancel our screenings of NATHALIE on October 27 and October 29. In NATHALIE's place, LVHIFF will screen Jean-Luc Godard's latest masterpiece NOTRE MUSIQUE! NATHALIE tickets will be honored at the door for NOTRE MUSIQUE, or you may exchange your ticket at the Festival Box Office. NOTRE MUSIQUE Describing and structuring his new work as a film in three parts – Hell, Purgatory and Paradise – Jean-Luc Godard uses Dante’s “Inferno” as a point of departure to muse on one of the director’s primary obsessions: the vagaries of the contemporary world. This brilliant visual artist still has the uncanny ability to tear the veil away from everything that surrounds us, reimagining the world in stark new ways. NOTRE MUSIQUE is a mixture of essay, voice-over, autobiographical asides, documentary footage and fiction arrayed in incomparable fashion. Godard carefully orchestrates the film to follow a symphonic structure, each segment synonymous with one of the traditional three movements, to create what becomes literally “our music,” a visual and aural snapshot of the times. - excerpted from the Toronto Film Festival Today's Screenings
