Dumplings: Midnight Movie this Saturday
A special screening with Bai Ling!

Oct 22, 11:59 PM, Dole Cannery

We've just added a special midnight screening of DUMPLINGS, this Saturday night, October 22, with a special appearance by actress Bai Ling!

Bai Ling - former entertainer for the People's Liberation Army, Playboy model, Tiananmen Square protester, student at the Strasberg Institute, star of films ranging from HU GUANG to RED CORNER (opposite Richard Gere) to NIXON to THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY - will attend this screening only!

Here's some information on the film!

Mei (Bai Ling) is a trashy former abortion doctor who shuttles back and forth across the HK-China border with benign-looking containers of glistening dumplings. Bound not for the family dinner table, these dumplings are of a special sort, and the preferred meal of a high-paying clientele who seek their famed youth-renewing powers. Qing (Miriam Yeung) is a nearing-40 former soap actress clinging to her youth and attempting to win back her philandering husband (Tony Leung), who sucks down chicken fetuses in an attempt to maintain his own vigor. Regular meals at Mei’s apartment only whet her appetite for eternally smooth skin, and trigger an ominous search for an even more potent variety of the dumplings’ secret ingredient. -- Chi-hui Yang

“DUMPLINGS is such an elegant horror-trip, extremely controlled, elegant direction. This chilling little number is the cinematic equivalent of Jonathan’s Swift A Modest Proposal a satirical pamphlet that shocked 18th-century readers by proposing eating babies as a solution to the Irish famine. There, as here, the key to the success of the exercise is a sustained control of tone.” -- Lee Marshall, Screen

DUMPLINGS garnered four Hong Kong Film Award Nominations: Best Supporting Actor (Tony Leung Ka-fai), Best Supporting Actress (Bai Ling), Best Cinematography (Christopher Doyle), and Best Screenplay (Lilian Lee).
