AN UNTOLD TRIUMPH on PBS nationwide!

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2002 Hawaii International Film Festival, AN UNTOLD TRIUMPH, the never-been-told story of the U.S. Army's 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments, will premiere on Memorial Day, May 30th at 10 P.M. on PBS across the United States, and 9:00 p.m. on PBS Hawaii! Congratulations to Director Noel Izon and Lead Writer/Associate Producer (and local filmmaker) Stephanie J. Castillo.

The film, narrated by Lou Diamond Phillips (whose mother is a Filipina), tells the story of the U.S. Army's Filipino Infantry Regiments, made up of immigrants and sons of immigrants living in Hawaii and Mainland America at the time Pearl Harbor was bombed. More than 7000 of these Filipino soldiers trained in California. General MacArthur selected 400 men, the best of the group, for special commando training in Australia and to form the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion (Special), a group that was a precursor to the Green Berets.

DOUBLE DARE on Independent Lens!

Amanda Micheli's action-packed documentary DOUBLE DARE had its Hawaii-premiere at the Fall 2004 Hawaii International Film Festival! Dont miss your chance to see the film again on "Independent Lens," the Emmy Award-winning Series on PBS, hosted By Susan Sarandon on Tuesday, May 31 at 10:00 P.M (rebroadcast Sunday, June 5 at 10:00 p.m.) on Hawaii PBS.

Here's what Tom Brislin had to say about the doucmentary in last year's program guide:

"You've seen Jeannie Epper and Zoe Bell on the small and large screen. Or at least you've seen their backs as they fight an array of villans, or as they leap from tall buildings in single bounds. They are stuntwomen, and have doubled for such screen icons as Wonder Woman and Xena. This compact and well-made documentary goes beyond a fan's-eye-view of stunt gags (and those fans include Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino in featured interviews). At its best moments it explores the literal pain of breaking into stunt work for the newcomer (Bell), and breaking out of the ageism and sexism (the legendary Epper) that can make Hollywood hostile even to the formidable talents of this pair."

Check out the film's official website, the film's review in the New York Times, an interview with director Amanda Micheli and the write-up on PBS.
