THE PHANTOM BELOW

Two days until PHANTOM BELOW!

The Hawaii International Film Festival is pleased to present the world premiere of the new submarine drama PHANTOM BELOW this Thursday, March 31, 8:00 p.m., at the "Pride of the Pacific," the Hawaii Theatre! Tickets are still available online, at the HIFF Ticket Desk or the Hawaii Theatre!

The Honolulu Advertiser says PHANTOM BELOW is:

"an action-adventure film set on an American attack submarine traveling in waters off North Korea, is an ambitious first offering by the new Hawai'i-based production company Pacific Films, which has four other film projects scheduled to begin production within the next year. Adrian Paul (star of the HIGHLANDER TV series) plays Burt Habley, a veteran submarine commander facing court-martial for an engagement with an enemy sub that ends in personal tragedy. Habley's shot at vindication comes when he's asked to lead a covert mission to the same area, a mission quickly threatened by dissent within the crew."

The full story is here. Don't miss great behind-the-scenes pictures of the production (e.g., Adrian in Navy dress whites, Adrian learning his lines) here!

PHANTOM BELOW features Catherine Dent (THE SHIELD, 21 GRAMS) as Lieutenant Trifoli, a woman who has to serve under the man she thinks killed her brother. Matthew St. Patrick (SIX FEET UNDER) gives a standout performance as Barker, the second-in-command ready to relieve his rogue captain.

As Hawaii Film and Video Magazine reports, the film was shot completely in Hawaii with over a hundred local cast and crew members, including wives of active military, students, people over the age of 45, and many women in key positions! The production company, Pacific Films, is committed to mentoring and training the local Hawaiian film labor community on an ongoing basis.

Tomorrow: We'll focus on the man who shot the film! Paul Atkins: marine biologist, Emmy-award winning producer and the cinematographer of HIFF's award-winning short, SILENT YEARS. And more in depth PHANTOM BELOW helmer Brian Trenchard-Smith...the man behind the seminal action hit THE MAN FROM HONG KONG!
