HIFF 2014 CALL FOR ENTRIES IS NOW CLOSED.
Welcome filmmakers! The HIFF 2014 festival will take place October 2014 at the Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Theaters in Honolulu on Oahu. We have outlined the categories, deadlines and fees for this year below. Before you begin to enter your film, download the 2014 Rules and Regulations for exact requirements by clicking on the link below. Notification of film acceptance status will be announced approximately by September 2014. There is a $25 or $15 fee for films submitted in the MADE IN HAWAII category.

Withoutabox is free and allows filmmakers to complete a single application and submit to almost 3,000 film festivals around the world! Discounted entry fees are also available through Withoutabox. * Entries in the Pacific Showcase categories must be made by FIRST PEOPLES from the Pacific Rim, specifically, Hawaii, Polynesia, Oceania and Australasia.
** Entries in the New American Filmmaker categories must include an American immigrant as one of either the main production crew or cast.
*** EuroCinema Hawai’i entries must have been produced in one or more European Union countries.
SUBMISSION DEADLINES AND FEES
All submissions must go through Withoutabox.com. Films must have been completed after January 1, 2013.

All film entries must be postmarked by a final deadline of June 6, 2014 (features) or June 16, 2014 (shorts) to qualify for this year’s festival. The student (under 18 years of age) category deadline is on July 1, 2014, and will not be charged a submission fee (Hawaii residents only). Include your screener DVD (the DVD sent must be Region 1 NTSC) in a bubble pack envelope, with the actual DVD clearly labeled with your contact information and the Withoutabox number (looks like: 14-WAB-0000-FNAR). Preview DVDs and submitted press materials will not be returned.
LUXURY ROW PRESENTS EUROCINEMA HAWAI’I 2014
All films of European origin are qualified for consideration in EuroCinema Hawai’i 2014 – a “festival within the festival” celebrating the best of European films through the EuroCinema Hawai’i Awards Gala.
Founded and incorporated in 2009, EuroCinema Hawai’i is dedicated to the advancement of understanding and cultural exchange among the peoples of Europe and Hawaii and providing scholarships for film students. In 2013 our internationally recognized jury awarded Tiffany designed trophies in 5 categories:
- Princess Dialta Alliata di Monterale Award for Best Film:
Belgium/Dutch coproduction The Broken Circle Breakdown, directed by Felix Van Groeningen
- Best Director: Bernardo Bertolucci for Italy’s Me and You
- Best Actor: Luca Barbareschi for Italy’s Something Good
- Best Actress: Paulina Garcia for Spain/Chile coproduction Gloria
- Best Student Film: Little Girl’s War Cry, directed by Erin Lau
A separate $3000 cash prize for the EuroCinema Hawai’i Best Student Film is awarded to nominees selected from submissions from the state of Hawaii by qualified students. Shorts, documentaries, and features by student filmmakers will be considered. To compete for this award, the filmmaker must meet all three qualifications:
- The filmmaker must be a current Hawaii resident.
- The filmmaker must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic institute.
- The film must be between 5 to 10 minutes in length.
