New Features in our Online Program Guide
We’ve worked hard this year to make film trailers available on our online program guide, and you can also view them on our homepage, as well as our YouTube Channel. When you mouse over the featured films on the home page, many of them will have a ‘View Trailer’ link that you can click on.
B-Side’s “Schedule Genius Wizard”
The Schedule Genius is a new feature this year, which will look at the screenings you have added to your personal calendar and automatically find and fix schedule conflicts, suggest alternate screenings, and will make sure you get to see the films you want to see. In addition, you can now download or print your personal calendar or the full schedule of films & events.
Using the Schedule Genius requires you to register for a free account, which only requires a valid e-mail address. Once you have registered, add any screenings you are interested in to your personal calendar, then click on the ‘run schedule genius’ button on the Schedule or My Festival pages. The Schedule Genius first asks for the dates you will be attending the festival, then it optimizes your schedule. You can even specify travel time between different venues for it to take into account. You will have an opportunity to modify the presented schedule before accepting the changes.
Rating films with Twitter
It is now possible to use Twitter to rate films on HIFF’s online program guide. You will need both an account with Twitter and to register for a free account on HIFF’s online program guide. Once you have both of these accounts, edit your profile on HIFF’s online program guide to add your Twitter user name. Once you have done this, submit a message on Twitter that’s formatted like this:
@festg [full film title] #rate5 #hiff09
This message is directed toward the Festival Genius account, and the tag #rate5 will give the film 5 stars. If you wanted to give it 1 star instead, you would replace that with a #rate1 tag. The second tag, #hiff09, specifies that you’re rating this film on HIFF’s 2009 program guide. You can also submit this rating via text message to ’40404′, however you will need to add your mobile phone number to your Twitter account under the ‘Devices’ tab first.
