Honolulu, HI – (March 30, 2017) – The Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) Board of Directors announced today the selection of Beckie Stocchetti to serve as the organization’s new Executive Director. Stocchetti will replace Robert Lambeth, who announced his departure last November after serving as Executive Director since 2014.

Stocchetti, who recently oversaw all Independent and Local Film Initiatives at the Chicago Film Office and was formerly the Director of Engagement and Programs at Kartemquin Films, has an extensive background in independent film distribution, program development, audience engagement and social impact strategy. Stocchetti brings with her years of experience in programming and has previously contributed to the Hawaii International Film Festival as a programmer, development consultant, and Director of Education.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Beckie Stocchetti as HIFF’s new Executive Director,” said Owen Ogawa, President of HIFF’s Board of Directors. “I am confident Beckie’s talent, passion, and vision will lead us to new heights in this next chapter. Her experiences with HIFF, festivals on the mainland, and within the industry are paramount as we endeavor to continue to share our love of International film and cultivate a base of support through this platform for many years to come.”

As Executive Director, Stocchetti will oversee all programs of the non-profit Hawaii International Film Festival, which include its Spring Showcase and Fall Film Festival. She will also be responsible for continuing the organization’s mandate to exhibiting innovative creative content across the Pacific Rim, expanding strategic partnerships and programs, and cultivating relationships with foundations and corporate sponsors.

“This is an exciting time for HIFF in providing a critical, international platform for filmmakers creating compelling and cutting-edge media that fosters greater connection to our world, and  I am thrilled and honored to return to HIFF,” Stocchetti said. “HIFF continues to play a unique and vital role as an international forum for cinematic achievement and the exchange of culture across Asia, North America, and the Pacific Rim. There are countless narratives to share from this part of the world. I look forward to working alongside our growing community, talented staff, and dedicated board to cultivate innovative programs that will reach beyond Hawai’i and contribute to our evolving global media landscape and cultural narrative.”

Stocchetti has worked to support the independent film community in Chicago and nationally for over a decade. At the Chicago Film Office, Beckie worked to support and elevate Chicago’s independent film and media makers and the many organizations that serve them. Her role focused on cultivating opportunities to increase sustainability for the local film industry, and to highlight Chicago on a national scale and as a hub for independent creatives.

Prior to joining the Chicago Film Office, Stocchetti was Director of Engagement and Programs at Kartemquin where she consulted with producers around distribution and impact strategy throughout the production process, and managed all professional development programs for emerging and mid-career filmmakers at the organization. Also in Chicago, Stocchetti worked as the Program Director at Chicago Filmmakers, a 501-c-3 filmmaker service organization, where she programmed weekly screenings and classes for filmmakers and developed the Digital Media Production Fund.

From 2009 to 2011, Stocchetti served as the Assistant Film Curator and Business Manager of the Doris Duke Theater at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Stocchetti has also programmed independent film for museums, theaters, schools, independent distribution, park districts, underground cinemas, and international film festivals. She regularly serves as a guest speaker, panelist, and juror for film festivals and film grants across the United States. Beckie previously served on the boards of Full Spectrum Features (Signature Move), Chicago International Film Festival, ArtWorks Projects, and Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival. She is a Chicago Community Trust Young Leaders Fund associate, and holds memberships with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, IFC Chicago, and Alliance (previously NAMAC).

Stocchetti is a graduate of the University of Chicago in Cinema and Media Studies with an emphasis on international cinema, contemporary political documentaries, and spectator theory.
