The 2010 Hawaii International Film Festival film program and schedule will be launching online this Friday, September 24th. You'll soon be able to pick up a printed program guide, we'll update you again when they're available. Tickets won't go on sale until September 30th for HIFF Ohana members and October 4th for the general public.
As a bonus for HIFF members, sponsors and HIFF 30 button wearers, we're holding a sneak peek screening of BOY, a film by Taika Waititi, from New Zealand on Thursday September 30th at 6:30pm at Regal Dole Cannery Theaters. Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. See information about BOY after the jump.
BOY
New Zealandi 2010 | 90 min | English
Director: Taika Waititi

Boy (first timer James Rolleston) lives with his Nan, his brother and his cousins in the rural New Zealand village of Waihau Bay, where he hangs out with his pet goat and obsesses about one day seeing a Michael Jackson concert. His father, Alamein (Taika Waititi, who also directs) is famous for many things including being a war hero and punching out the most people with one fist... at least... that's who he is according to Boy's vivid imagination. In reality, Boy has never really known his dad, since he's spent most of Boy's life either in prison or just not around. But that changes when Nan leaves town to attend a funeral and dad shows up with his gang of three.
In his follow up to EAGLE VS. SHARK (HIFF 2008), director Taika Waititi serves up a heart-felt (if not heart warming) comedy about a boy looking for a father figure in a man who may not be fit to be a proper dad. Along the way there are plenty of laughs, but ultimately Waititi's willingness to avoid convention in favor of honesty is what makes BOY a winner.

I wil be attending the sneak preview on 30 Sep 2010 at 6:30pm at the Regal Dole Canner Theaters. I updated my informtion in the computer-put I cannot sign in again? I did manage to sign up for a few theater operations shifts(before it timed out) and I wanted to sign up for more sine I am off on Thursdays and Fridays. I am still interested in being a shutle driver and I hope that there isn't too much conflict with the shifts I volunteered for already-but if there is please let it be known that I will shuttle drive instead. Let me know what you want me to do and when.
