Euro Cinema Hawaii Awards Gala & Meet the Jurors Reception
Saturday, October 15 was one of the biggest nights of the festival. In addition to all the movies playing at Regal Dole Cannery Theaters, there were three major events. First there was the Meet the Jurors Reception at Hotel Renew, then it was the Eurocinema Hawaii Black Tie Awards Gala at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. Also going on was Sunset on the Beach screening for the film festival, but I never made it there. Too many amazing nightlife parties going on.
At Hotel Renew, a chic boutique hotel located on the East side of Waikiki, there were all the jurors from the festival (both locals and out-of-town special guests) to meet. I was able to meet Tamlyn Tomita, who is a very friendly person. I also met jurors from around the World, including one of my favorite Canadian cities, Toronto. Also got to catch up with Byron Furukawa of Hawaii News Now, who is helping judge the documentaries of the festival.
Later I moved to the Sheraton Moana Surfrider, which was hosting the Eurocinema Hawaii Awards Gala. Thank goodness I brought a suit jacket with me, I think 90% of the men had jackets. I love these type of events. This event was held on the lawn of the hotel, and since the weather held up with no rain, it was an amazing night to host this gala. About 300 people were in attendance and food served from a variety of restaurants. It felt like a mini food and wine festival. The pasta dishes were the winners. Dessert was also amazing. Once again, Disaronno was the alcohol sponsor of this HIFF related event, and I am really getting to love this liquor. Really love.
The Awards ceremony featured Tiffany & Co awards (talk about pimp) and the crowd was also entertained with the weekly fireworks show off the Hilton Hawaiian Village. This was definitely the most “gala” type event of the film festival. Tickets for this gala were $125 and the event sold out.
Special thanks to the wonderful sponsors of this gala – Luxury Row, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Peroni, Disaronno, Tiffany & Co. and the Moana Surfrider. An another fabulous Hawaii International Film Festival Event.
