Last Saturday night, many prominent members of Hawaii’s community gathered at Halekulani for a gala to honor Yue-Sai Kan with a lifetime achievement award. Yue-Sai Kan is a Chinese American Emmy-winning television host and producer, successful entrepreneur, fashion icon, bestselling author and humanitarian.

During the gala there was a beautiful fashion show organized by Neiman Marcus, with a team of lovely models led by Miss Universe China, Diana Xu.

HIFF held its 2012 opening reception last Thursday night at Halekulani’s breezy Hau Terrace. Here are some photos from the event. Some of our guests included Mayor Peter Carlisle, Yue-Sai Kan, Miss Universe China Diana Xu, along with filmmakers, HIFF sponsors and our Board of Directors. Attendees rode over to the Dole Cannery Stadium 18 & IMAX Theaters afterward to watch the opening night film, THE SAPPHIRES.

Anna’s Must-See Japanese Films at HIFF 2012!

Love Japanese movies as much as I do? Overwhelmed with the 20 amazing Japanese film selections at this year’s festival? Don’t stress! If you don’t have time to see them all, check out my list of must-see gems and personal favorites!

HIFF 2012 – Something For Everyone

HIFF is right around the corner! We are presenting 222 films from 43 countries. With a mix of premieres, festival favorites, return engagements of classic films, cautionary tales about the world around us, midnight madness, and a selection of Oscar baiting films this coming winter, there’s definitely a film for everyone.

So, here’s a list of titles that hit that can be considered the ideal film festival viewing list, if you’re still having trouble deciding on what films to see:


Sneak Peek for HIFF Members Sept 27

THERMAE ROMAE will be screening on Thu, Sept. 27 at 6:30PM at Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 & IMAX theaters. Existing or new HIFF members can get (2) free admissions to this film screening. Film Program and Schedule Released!

As this year’s festival approaches, we’re pleased to present the full film program and schedule of the 32nd Hawaii International Film Festival. We have some really high profile films this year such as our opening night film from Australia, THE SAPPHIRES, our centerpiece presentation from the United States, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, and our closing night film from South Korea, THE THIEVES.

What happened to I Heart HIFF? It was replaced by THE IMPOSTER!

Here are the details for the “I Heart HIFF” screening this Thursday, August 16 at 7pm. This screening is free for current HIFF members, and anyone can attend if they purchase a HIFF membership. There will be a 15% discount on HIFF memberships at the event.

HIFF is looking for Interns & Seasonal Staff

Call for Entries ends on July 13th. Submit your film today!

There’s less than a week left to submit your film for the upcoming Hawaii International Film Festival, which will be held October 11-21, 2012. The Withoutabox extended deadline is this Friday, July 13th. Please make sure your entries are postmarked by that date before sending them to HIFF.
Submit Your Film to HIFF Today
If you’re a student in high school or younger, you have more time, as the deadline for student film entries is August 17th. There are no submission fees for student films.
