Photos from Meet The Filmmakers at Rumfire

Last Sunday night, our press and filmmaker guests gathered at RumFire at the Sheraton Waikiki to relax and network at the Meet the Filmmakers party. Many new professional relationships have formed from meeting others in a relaxed atmosphere such as this. The filmmaker delegates that are in town will be present after their film screenings for ~15 minute Q&A sessions. There’s nothing quite like talking to the actual filmmaker at a film festival; You certainly can’t have the same experience by…

Photos from Japan Reception with Kōji Yakusho

Last Sunday, HIFF held a reception at the Halekulani Garden Terrace to welcome “Japan’s Leading Man”, Kōji Yakusho, to Hawaii. You may recognize him from films such as TAMPOPO (1985), SHALL WE DANCE (1996), and more recently, 13 ASSASSINS (2010) & CHRONICLE OF MY MOTHER (2011). Many of his films have played at HIFF over the years, and we’re proud to present the Hawaii premiere of THE WOODSMAN AND THE RAIN.

Fiji Water presents An Evening at Sam Choy’s

Sam Choy’s Restaurant hosted the final event of the Film Festival on Saturday night. It was probably the last time that the HIFF community for this years event would gather together. Once again it was attended by film delegates, sponsors and other special guests of the festival. It was a great way to say goodbye to all the friends I made during the last 10 days.

The event was sponsored by Fiji Water and featured a wine and beer (sponsored by our festival friends at Stella Artois) station. The food was amazing and included Sam Choy’s special recipe fried poke and a shortrib luau with chili pepper Fiji Water. While it is sad to say goodbye to many new friends (although thanks to Facebook we can stay connnected), I am grateful that the Hawaii International Film Festival has connected me with many amazing filmmakers, crew and actors.

Now on to closing night with the Descendants and a private reception party after the movie.
