This year marks the 100th year of film production in Hawai’i, and the Hawaii International Film Festival presented by Halekulani will celebrate with its annual event, to be held from October 10-20, 2013. While the Hawaii International Film Festival is a truly international film festival, we definitely lean more toward Asia and the Pacific Rim while programming the films in the festival. Much of this has to do with our location between the East and the West, the heavy Asian influence in the islands, and our audience’s tastes. We have just released the film program and schedule for the 2013 Spring Showcase, April 5-11 at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 & IMAX Theaters.
You can view the films and schedule online, or pick up a printed user guide. Guides have been mailed to HIFF Ohana members. They’re available at the HIFF office, and they’re being distributed around Oahu, so look at your local libraries, coffee shops, etc.

Film submissions have recently opened for the Hawaii International Film Festival in October 2013, so submit your film today! We encourage filmmakers to submit works from any genre. We are especially interested in feature films, documentaries, short films, Hawaii-themed films, and student films. There are no entry fees for student filmmakers under 18. This year there is a $15 and $10 fee for films submitted in the MADE IN HAWAII category.

Since the 85th Annual Academy Awards are approaching on Sunday, February 24th, HIFF is holding a contest to pick the winners of the various nominated categories. A $100 HIFF Gift Card will go to the winner of the contest, to be announced on Tuesday, January 26th. This contest is free and open to the public, 18 and older.
